This is my preferred loop knot for the end of my backing.
- Measure out 1 meters of backing.
- Double it up so that you your right hand inside the end of the loop and you are holding the tag ends in your left hand.
- Take 20 rotations of your right had inside the loop.
- Slide the open loop off your hand and over your knee.
- Separate the tag end from the main line compacting the twisted line down toward the knee.
- Put your thumb and for finger inside the loop over the knee and apply pressure to open the loop up … as you do that feed the tag ends down over-wrapping the twisted line.
- When the over-wrapping meets the bottom of the twisted line take a half hitch firt around the bottom thread in the loop and then around the top thread in the loop … wet and tighten those two half hitches.
- Do a triple hitch around both lines and carefully take the tag end/s between the two lines forming the loop and wet and tighten that knot.

When the connection is for heavier salt water applications I double up the running line to form a double loop as follows.
- Measure out 2 meters of backing. The thicker the backing the longer you will need to tie the knot.
- Double it up so that you have a double of one meter.
- Double it again so that you your right hand inside the end of the double loop and you are holding the tag ends in your left hand.
- Take 20 rotations of your right had inside the loop.
- Slide the open loop off your hand and over your knee.
- Separate the double tag ends from the main line and the tag end from the first loop forcing the twisted line down toward the knee.
- Trim off the tag ends.
