How to Tie a Bimini Twist Knot for Fishing Gear

This is my preferred loop knot for the end of my backing.

  1. Measure out 1 meters of backing.
  2. Double it up so that you your right hand inside the end of the loop and you are holding the tag ends in your left hand.
  3. Take 20 rotations of your right had inside the loop.
  4. Slide the open loop off your hand and over your knee.
  5. Separate the tag end from the main line compacting the twisted line down toward the knee.
  6. Put your thumb and for finger inside the loop over the knee and apply pressure to open the loop up … as you do that feed the tag ends down over-wrapping the twisted line.
  7. When the over-wrapping meets the bottom of the twisted line take a half hitch firt around the bottom thread in the loop and then around the top thread in the loop … wet and tighten those two half hitches.
  8. Do a triple hitch around both lines and carefully take the tag end/s between the two lines forming the loop and wet and tighten that knot.
  9. li>Trim off the tag ends.

When the connection is for heavier salt water applications I double up the running line to form a double loop as follows.

  1. Measure out 2 meters of backing. The thicker the backing the longer you will need to tie the knot.
  2. Double it up so that you have a double of one meter.
  3. Double it again so that you your right hand inside the end of the double loop and you are holding the tag ends in your left hand.
  4. Take 20 rotations of your right had inside the loop.
  5. Slide the open loop off your hand and over your knee.
  6. Separate the double tag ends from the main line and the tag end from the first loop forcing the twisted line down toward the knee.
  7. Put your thumb and for finger inside the loop over the knee and apply pressure to open the loop up … as you do that feed the tag ends down over-wrapping the twisted line.
  8. When the over-wrapping meets the bottom of the twisted line take a half hitch firt around the bottom thread in the loop and then around the top thread in the loop … wet and tighten those two half hitches.
  9. Do a triple hitch around both lines and carefully take the tag end/s between the two lines forming the loop and wet and tighten that knot.
  10. Trim off the tag ends.
